Single Year Record Raised by Chartway Federal Credit Union to Make Dreams Come True for Children Battling Illness
Chartway Federal Credit Union president and CEO Ron Burniske and We Promise kid heroes were thrilled to announce that, thanks to the two benefit events and all of the foundations fundraisers this year, Chartways We Promise Foundation has reached a historic milestone: $1 million raised in one year to make dreams come true for children battling life-threatening illnesses.

Recently, several celebrities, including actress Gail O’ Grady; alternative rock band, The Gin Blossoms; LPGA player Jill McGill; and 20 We Promise kid heroes, rocked out and teed up during a two-day fundraising rally hosted by Chartway Federal Credit Union’s We Promise Foundation to make dreams come true for children battling life-threatening illnesses.

Chartway president and CEO Ron Burniske has a special place in his heart for children battling life-threatening illnesses.  Sixteen years ago, he met a precocious five-year-old named Julie and her mother in the teller line of a Chartway branch.  During this chance meeting, Burniske learned that this spirited youngster was fiercely fighting for her life.   Inspired to do something to help the member’s family, Chartway organized its first golf tournament to send Julie and her family, to Disney World for a worry-free, week-long escape at the happiest place on earth.

In that first year, the We Promise Foundation raised $10,000.  Sixteen years later, the Foundation has crossed the $1 million annual threshold which shows the tremendous strides and the level of commitment the entire Chartway FCU family has pledged to help children like Julie and their families.
