“Your profile is your brand,” said Susan Long-Molnar, President of Managing Communications Consulting. In an interactive and educational session, Long-Molnar presented “Making LinkedIn Support Your Brand” at the Chamber Education Series on Thursday, November 8, 2018.

With the accessibility and popularity of social media, Long-Molnar emphasized to the packed classroom the importance of utilizing these social platforms to benefit your brand. LinkedIn, in particular, is the “most effective social media platform.” A platform of over 562 million users, Long-Molnar stressed that there is no other platform that will help you build relationships, increase your value and impact your branding more than LinkedIn.

“The purpose is to connect.” An important tip that Long-Molnar shared with the audience was to share their stories. She emphasized that stories bind us all together and through those stories, is how you connect and engage with an audience. Long-Molnar also says, “If you’re going to share something, make sure your own value gets out there.” She also stressed that having a complete LinkedIn profile is the key to success. She says it’s crucial to have a profile picture, the name of your company, having your story listed and knowing who your connections are on your personal profile. This will help you connect with members of your industry and reach you to the people that you are trying to target.

There are several ways to create value and increase your presence on LinkedIn. Long-Molnar says one of them is the use of live video. She even shared a video she had filmed herself and uploaded to her LinkedIn, advertising today’s session. By uploading the video to the social media platform and having it posted on the homepage, the video was able to garner over a 100 views.

During this interactive session, Long-Molnar asked the audience to separate into groups based on the industry of their company. Groups included: Nonprofits, Recruiting, B2B, and B2C. Once separated into groups, she asked the groups to come up with strategies of how to better target their audience using LinkedIn. After discussing within our groups, some strategies that each group came up with included video testimonials, filtering and syphoning connections and appealing to the mission statement of the organization.
