The Hampton Roads Chamber Supports Chesapeake School Redistricting
As Seen in The Virginian Pilot: A letter to the editor
The process of changing school attendance zones is both emotional and politically challenging. The Pilot’s recent stories about the Chesapeake School Board rezoning decision clearly demonstrate this.
However, this redistricting has been necessary for quite some time. A number of schools in the city are significantly over the recommended student capacity, while others have empty space. The Pilot has reported these facts on numerous occasions.
These factors are out of the School Board’s control. Board members deserve praise, not attacks or derision, for their decision.
The Chesapeake Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber applauds the Chesapeake School Board and school administrators for taking the necessary steps to use as much school capacity as possible.
The city and the school division have limited resources and must use them in the most efficient way possible. Rezoning will allow the division — one of the best in Hampton Roads — to function properly and to plan for the future.
All Chesapeake students will be afforded excellent educational services and programs, no matter which school they attend.
