Chesapeake Division Hosts General Assembly Delegation
Chesapeake Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce hosted a 2016 wrap-up briefing on the 2016 General Assembly Session at the Lifestyles Center at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

On Wednesday, May 18th the Chesapeake Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce hosted a 2016 wrap-up briefing on the 2016 General Assembly Session at the Lifestyles Center at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

Delegates Jay Leftwich (R-78th), Delegate Lionell Spruill, Sr. (D-77th), Delegate Barry Knight (R-81st), and Senator John Cosgrove (R-14th) provided the Board an in-depth perspective on the actions of the General Assembly. Specifically, it was noted that the Hampton Roads delegation strives to work together on a bi-partisan basis to advance the region’s economy and business climate.  Positive budgetary actions were taken regarding funding of the Port of Virginia; K-12 Education; Transportation funding (Regional HB 2 projects); Fentress Airfield Easement purchases; and the creation of “Go Virginia” Initiative.  Additionally, it was noted that the Commonwealth properly amended the State Code to allow tax relief for spouses of Military servicemen/women who are killed in action. 

All legislators noted their commitment to advancing the efforts for future development of a  4000 acre mega-site located in southern Chesapeake adjacent to Rt. 17 near the North Carolina Border.

Chairperson Rhonda Bridgeman commended the Chesapeake Delegation for it cooperation, accessibility, and dedication to the region and the Commonwealth.
