Norfolk, VA, - May 10, 2018 - Appropriately timed for National Bike Month this May and as part of MacArthur’s unique Award Winning initiative Live 360°, MacArthur Center has been recognized for its bike-friendly approach to welcoming employees and visitors to its property. In April, the League of American Bicyclists awarded MacArthur Center with a bronze designation from the organization’s Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) program for creating a bike-friendly experience for the Norfolk community.
"As we celebrate National Bike Month and the 10th year of the Bicycle Friendly Business program, the League of American Bicyclists is honored to recognize our latest new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Businesses. These companies and organizations are making their workplaces and their communities safer, happier, healthier, and more sustainable through bicycling,” said Amelia Neptune, Director of the Bicycle Friendly America program. “We applaud these businesses, including MacArthur Center, for leading the charge in creating a more bicycle-friendly America for everyone."
With this announcement MacArthur Center joins a cutting-edge category of only 1,200 businesses throughout the country - and the second in Hampton Roads - that make a point of being bicycle friendly. Made up of local businesses, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies in all 50 states and Washington, DC, this prestigious group are transforming America's work, community and neighborhood gathering spaces.
"MacArthur Center encourages its employees to bike to work and our guests often bike over for shopping, dining and other family and social activities,” says Karen Husselbee, marketing director for MacArthur Center. “Bikes are pollution free, provide good exercise and are pretty easy to park here at the center. To encourage bicyclists, we provide easy parking in bike racks around the center, bike friendly activities and education."
As part of the award, MacArthur Center will enjoy new access to a variety of Bicycle Friendly America’s tools and technical assistance to become even more bicycle-friendly.
