The Hampton Roads Chamber is a powerful economic partner, inspiring ignitor, and impactful advocate for the region. To help move Hampton Roads forward we are engaging the business community for our next Inter-Regional Visit (IRV) to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Why Pittsburgh? We are looking at three key areas: Economic Development, Workforce Development, and Infrastructure Development. Pittsburgh is progressive in achieving success in all three. We will talk with Allegheny County leaders about their best practices.
Discussions with regional thinkers, planners and doers will center on Pittsburgh’s emergence as an economic leader after experiencing a deep recession in the 1980’s. Pittsburgh is among the top cities in the nation for regional cooperation and success. The mantra “if it’s not for all, it’s not for us” guides all economic development decisions for the Allegheny County region.
The trip will include panel discussions with leaders from the transit and airport sectors, healthcare, education, entrepreneurs, and developers. We will visit PNC Park and experience a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game. We will tour Heinz Field Arena, the Carnegie Science Center, and an incubator that is opening this spring. A development tour hosted by former Mayor Tom Murphy and Allegheny County Chief Corporate Relations Officer Bill Flanagan will showcase the strategic growth in and around the city. We will take a walking tour of the Strip District. A refurbished area similar to Norfolk’s railroad district or Virginia Beach’s VIBE district. A luncheon water tour along the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers will demonstrate the waterfront development that is needed in Hampton Roads along the Elizabeth River.
The visit will also be a chance to learn how our region can better develop our brand and sense of place.
Please join us and be a catalyst for a better Hampton Roads.
The Inter-Regional Visit to Pittsburgh will be June 19 to June 22, 2018. For information and sponsorships please contact Priscilla Monti email@example.com (757) 470-6805.
