On February 14, the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce held its second Professional Women’s Leadership Luncheon at the Holiday Inn Virginia Beach-Norfolk Hotel and Conference Center. The speaker was Ann M. DeLaney, Founding Partner of DeLaney & DeLaney, LLC and author of “Politics for Dummies.”
Over 200 business and community leaders were in attendance to hear DeLaney discuss how the Republican Nomination process works and to hear her views and predictions for the Presidential race of 2012.
DeLaney talked about the Tea Party, Super PACs and which election issues she feels will be significant. She predicted that Mitt Romney will win the Republican Nomination but noted that it would be a close race with Rick Santorum. DeLaney said the unemployment rate would be the deciding factor in the election. “If the unemployment rate continues to go down, then Obama will win,” she said. “It will be an interesting election.” DeLaney ended by encouraging everyone to be a part of the election and vote. “The part of democracy that works so well is the citizen participation,” she said.
One lucky guest won two tickets on Southwest Airlines.
The next luncheon in the series will be held on May 4, featuring speaker Kimberly Dozier, award winning war correspondent and author of “Breathing the Fire.”
