There is a new phishing scheme that “appears” as an official email from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requesting updated information. The form requests name, address, social security number, annual gross income from last year’s return and the pin number that was used. Do not complete the form or reply to the email. The IRS does not send emails requesting taxpayer information ever. We do not use email to correspond with taxpayers due to internet security reasons.
If you have questions, contact Anna Falkenstein at 703-462-5925 or contact Criminal Investigation Division via the link on the IRS homepage (at the Identity Theft tab) if you have experienced a telephone or email scam.
