Before employment we evaluate and train each Personal Care Aide.  Training classes begin with detailed instruction of the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) requirements and expectations.

Training begins by going in depth into the psychological aspects of aging, the physical and emotional needs of the elderly, critical situations, and instructed in types of physical disabilities and handicaps.  This study is followed by training in personal care and rehabilitative services, including body mechanics, limitations on the activities of personal and respite care aides, techniques used by personal and respite care aide, goals of personal care, prevention of skin breakdown, and monitoring vital signs.  PCAs are also trained in home management specifically caring for patients personal belongings.  Safety and accident prevention is thoroughly covered with an emphasis on the common types of accidents, accident prevention, typical hazards in the home, ways to safety-proof the home, and company policies and procedures regarding accidents and injuries.  Food, nutrition, and meal preparation are covered in detail, including the importance of nutrition to the individual, general concepts of planning meals, special considerations of normal diet, special considerations in preparation of special diets, food purchasing and preparation, food storage and sanitation.  The final component of our training consists of documentation and completing aide records.

Nurse Aides (NAs), Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs), and Registered Nurses (RNs) must have years of excellent work experience in their fields to be considered for employment. Candidates for employment are required to successfully complete a computer aptitude test. This test gauges job performance, integrity, honesty, and exaggeration, to insure that we place an exemplary person in our patient’s homes.  We also administer drug tests and perform a limited credit check.  Our RNs have an average of over 40 years’ experience.  They train and supervise our aides and also create and oversee implementation of customized patient care plans.

Our goal is community based care.  Essentially we envision having the younger residents take care of the elderly in their own neighborhoods building community bonds in every neighborhood and city that we serve.

We serve Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Chesapeake, Newport News, Hampton, Yorktown, Williamsburg, Poquoson, and Charles City.

What products or services do you offer companies or individuals?

What are the greatest obstacles and/or challenges that your business has faced? How have you and your business overcome them

Due to the enormous demand for the services we offer, our biggest obstacle is hiring and retaining exceptional staff.  We are unable to take on any more patients until we have the staff to serve them.  We have joined the Chamber of Commerce for exposure to the larger tidewater community to reach additional staff and clients.

What accomplishments are you most proud of?

We are most proud of our training program and customer satisfaction.  We have the largest PCA training program in Tidewater with training facilities on the Southside and the Peninsula.  Our instructors enjoy over 40 years of nursing experience.  We are an accredited Better Business Bureau company, and certified Caregiver Quality Assurance home care company. We experience patient referals.
