The Small Business Development Center of Hampton Roads, Inc., (SBDC) a program of the Hampton Roads Chamber, is pleased to announce its newly established strategic partnership with Denton Realty Company. The purpose of the partnership is to support the SBDC’s mission of contributing to the growth and development of the region’s economy by providing management, technical and other assistance to its small business community. This newly formed relationship provides the SBDC and its clients with access to a heretofore-inaccessible information resource with expertise in the commercial real estate sector.
Chris Burnett sought out the relationship with the SBDC because he had a strong interest in working with small business owners. Having acquired over five years’ experience in working with commercial property owners, he developed an appreciation for how he could make prospective small business tenants more knowledgeable of the leasing process. Burnett commented, “There are a number of ways that tenants can limit their risk in a commercial lease; my goal is to offer that expertise and assist entrepreneurs with site selection, negotiating with landlords in order to find common ground in the lease terms that are mutually agreeable. The idea is to offer real estate expertise and resources that help growing business owners, allowing them to stay focused on executing their business plan and running their business.”
After meeting with Jim Carroll, the SBDC’s Executive Director, they quickly realized that this was an area of opportunity and a great fit with the SBDC’s mission. Carroll observed, “Space is often a huge expense and commitment for entrepreneurs and we are very excited for this relationship and I think it is quite appropriate that we have selected another small business as our professional partner.”
