WHAT: The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce has recognized the hardworking men and women of the military for two decades holding two annual receptions to honor top military personnel from local commands. These receptions provide an excellent opportunity for area business owners and regional elected officials to interact with members of the armed forces community. This reception will recognize approximately 200 military personnel from all five services at local commands. The service members will be joined at the reception that follows the ceremony by their families, senior military leadership, elected officials, and businessmen and women from the region.
WHO: The event’s guest speaker is Congressman Rob Wittman, who was elected to serve the First Congressional District of Virginia, America's First District, in December of 2007. He was re-elected for his third full term in the House of Representatives in November 2012. For more than 20 years, he has served at the local, state, and federal levels of government, beginning as a member of the Montross Town Council. On the Armed Services Committee, he serves as the Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee, and on the Seapower and Expeditionary Forces Subcommittee. In addition, as Co-Chair of the Congressional Shipbuilding Caucus, he is a staunch advocate for a robust Naval fleet and a healthy domestic shipbuilding industry. In 2012, Rob was appointed to serve his third term as the Chairman of the U.S. Naval Academy's Board of Visitors.
