The Chamber held a joint Suffolk Division and Portsmouth Division board meeting on April 21 at the Old Dominion University Tri-Cities Higher Education Center in Portsmouth, with nearly 30 business and community leaders in attendance. The meeting featured guest speaker Delegate Chris Jones (R-76th), who represents part of the cities of Chesapeake and Suffolk. Delegate Jones provided highlights of the 2011 Virginia General Assembly Session and answered questions from the group. Jobs, the economy, and transportation were key issues during this year’s session.
Jones said, “There is a lot of action and moving parts with the budget.” He added, “We have a pro-business attitude. Jobs are what makes the clock tick. In this economy, you want business to expand, businesses to relocate here, and jobs created.”
Jones has served in the Virginia House of Delegates since 1998 and has served on the following Virginia House of Delegates committees: Privileges and Elections, General Laws, Appropriations, and Rules. He is a pharmacist and owns Bennett’s Creek Pharmacy in Suffolk.
