Small businesses are a vital piece of Hampton Roads economy and the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber will host its Small Business of the Year Award Luncheon on May 21 at noon at the Marriott Chesapeake. Winners of the "Top 10 to Watch," Young Entrepreneur Award and Impressions in Print Leadership Award will be honored.

Small businesses are a vital piece of Hampton Roads’ economy and the Chamber of Commerce.  The Chamber will host its annual Small Business Awards luncheon on May 21 at noon at the Marriott Chesapeake to honor outstanding local businesses, leaders and entrepreneurs.

A Small Business of the Year will be recognized in each Southside city and one on the Peninsula.  An overall winner will be chosen for the regional award and receive a prize package from the Chamber valued at $10,000.

The "Top 10 to Watch," awards will be given to 10 Hampton Roads for-profit emerging businesses with fewer than 99 employees, in business for five years or less as of January 1, 2014.

Chamber President & CEO Bryan K. Stephens with YEA! winner Jim WhiteThe Young Entrepreneur Award (YEA!), will be awarded to a standout young entrepreneur in the Hampton Roads region, recognizing young entrepreneurs who have taken the risk of starting and running their own business in Hampton Roads.  The 2014 YEA! recipient is Jim White of Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios in Virginia Beach.  He opened his first location in 2005 and added another in 2009.  He is the National spokesman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and with his team, has helped hundreds of people lose thousands of pounds.  Jim’s lifelong mission is to make the community a healthier and more positive place.

Leadership Award recipient Kevin Neff with the Chamber's President & CEO Bryan K. StephensIn addition, the Impressions in Print Leadership Award will be presented to an individual demonstrating leadership, impact on workplace culture, community service and involvement, professional achievement, and perseverance.  The 2014 honoree is Kevin Neff, Owner/Founder of The KPN Group.  Neff is an award winning sales and marketing professional, consultant and best-selling author.  He is a volunteer member of The Noblemen and offers free seminars to educate and empower business owners.
