The donation from Bank of America will go directly to funding programming dedicated to providing STEM education and helping at-risk youth develop leadership skills through sailing lessons.
This free event is open to those who wish to learn more about becoming Girl Scouts. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour A Place for Girls, The Lodge, and The Outback, a nine-acre nature area. Guests will meet staff members, learn about programs and summer camp opportunities, network with volunteers and learn about the Girl Scout mission. There will also be craft activities for kids, and guests can enjoy 10 percent off purchases in the Girl Scout shop.
On June 20, the daylong TEDx event called Relevant Progress will feature 16 speakers from various disciplines at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk. TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) is well known for their 18 minute online Ted Talks. This event will showcase regional talent and identify relevant ways for Hampton Roads to grow.
As of April 2014, Hampton Roads unemployment rate fell to its lowest level in over five years to 5.1%. This is the lowest level, not accounting for seasonal positions.
A group of business leaders and citizens gathered at the Amtrak station in Norfolk on June 5 for the announcement of the formation of Mobility Matters, an advocacy movement designed to engage citizens and promote regional cooperation on the future of transportation in Hampton Roads. Mobility Matters will be reaching out to the public through a series of meetings to gather feedback and support for what organizers see as a critical component to the future of the local economy a reliable and seamless transportation network.
