Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce Hosts U.S. 2nd District Congressional Republican Debate
Congressman Randy Forbes and Delegate Scott Taylor, debated at the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce U.S. 2nd District Congressional Republican Debate on May 20th at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

There were 200 people in attendance as two respected and experienced leaders, Congressman Randy Forbes and Delegate Scott Taylor, debated at the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce U.S. 2nd District Congressional Republican Debate on May 20th at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.  Dr. Bob Holsworth with DecideSmart moderated the debate asking the two candidates questions about their stance on issues impacting the region and the nation.  These two candidates are competing for the opportunity to run for Congress in November 2016.  Some topics included, immigration, household income in Hampton Roads, the Affordable Care Act, tax reform, Virginia and energy, social security, and how to keep millennials in Hampton Roads.  

Congressman Randy Forbes was born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia.  He attended Randolph-Macon College and University of Virginia Law School.  He was first elected into Congress in 2001.  Congressman Forbes is Chairman of the House Armed Services Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.

The number one concern is young people getting jobs out of college.  We need to keep jobs here and grow more jobs

Delegate Scott Taylor represented the 85th District in Virginia House of Delegates.  He is also a former US Navy Seal.  Delegate Taylor is a Member of the Counties, Cities, Towns Committee; Transportation Committee, and Finance Committee.

Keeping millennials in the area:

College is important, but kids need skills.  Believes Virginia should equip kids with the ability to compete.  He started science and coding in elementary school to start children young on learning skills.
