The Importance of Being Properly Linked In on LinkedIn with Susan Long-Molnar
“The number one thing people are looking for on LinkedIn is help”

“The number one thing people are looking for on LinkedIn is help”, said Susan Long-Molnar as she presented on “LinkedIn for B-to-B Marketing 2017” at the Hampton Roads Chamber Education Series sponsored by Southern Bank and Farm Fresh on Wednesday, May 10th. Molnar, Founder & President of Managing Communications, shared her expertise on how to best optimize the use of LinkedIn and highlighted the major benefits.

When using LinkedIn, one key component to making your organization successful is developing a monthly content plan. “Create content that supports your goals and know what’s important to your target audience,” says Molnar. She emphasized the importance of being strategic in building relationships on and offline and being personable with the connections that will be most influential for your organization. Sarah Spangler, Vice President of Marketing for Issuetrak said the presentation “emphasized that we need to spend more time on LinkedIn as a company.” The idea that companies can participate in “brand management by being a resource [for their clients] was really helpful,” said Spangler.

LinkedIn can be beneficial in both professional and personal development. Molnar gave the audience an opportunity to review their own LinkedIn pages and provided ways to enhance their profiles. LinkedIn profiles "should be client focused," said Molnar, "your profile shouldn't just be your resume." A couple of the tips she provided included, having attention grabbing headlines and descriptions, providing accomplishments, projects, and special training to exemplify stand-out qualities. Molnor also stressed the importance of making authentic connections and engaging in local and national communities. "You want to be seen as a resource on LinkedIn," said Molnor, "people want you to share with them, show them something new they can learn."

It is important to the Hampton Roads Chamber’s mission to continue to be an inspiring Ignitor, and find the most effective ways to promote initiatives that benefit our members as well as the region. The Chamber Education Series will continue with “How to Connect with Anyone” with Chad Stenzel at the Hampton Roads Chamber on Thursday, May 25th.
