LEAD Hampton Roads, a program of the Hampton Roads Chamber, hosted BRAVO!, its annual gala celebration of the region and its leadership.
On June 3rd, LEAD Hampton Roads, a program of the Hampton Roads Chamber, hosted “BRAVO!, its annual gala celebration of the region and its leadership. More than 300 business and community leaders gathered at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott for the reception and dinner honoring three visionary leaders and celebrating LEAD’s 28th year of serving the region. Jeff Ainslie, President of Ainslie Group and Past Chair of the LEAD Board of Trustees, served as the evening’s emcee.
 
The First Citizen of Hampton Roads Award was presented to Congressman Scott Rigell, a graduate of the LEAD Class of 1993. The award expresses gratitude to one of our citizens who is a tireless leader in the face of adversity and complacency and it also highlights the importance of thinking and acting with an emphasis on collaboration across traditional boundaries. As a businessman and congressman, Scott Rigell champions fiscal responsibility, encourages entrepreneurship and models servant leadership.
 
The Julian Hirst Alumni Leadership Award was presented to James “Jimmy” Gray, President, Hampton Roads Committee of 200+ Men and Councilman-Elect for the City of Hampton. The Julian Hirst Alumni Leadership Award, named for a former City Manager of Norfolk and a founder of LEAD Hampton Roads, recognizes a graduate of LEAD who exemplifies excellence in community, civic and professional leadership.
 
The Visionary Leader Award was presented to Robert W. Cross, Executive Director of the Virginia Arts Festival. Mr. Cross’s vision in creating Virginia Arts Festival 20 years ago has helped to make Hampton Roads a cultural destination for travelers worldwide and has become an integral part of the life of the region supporting the arts, tourism, travel, and hospitality industries.
 
The evening also included the graduation of 47 business leaders who successfully completed the nine-month 2016 Signature LEAD program. They now join more than 1,300 other graduates serving the region.  View photos.
