LEAD Hampton Roads welcomes guests to its 18th Annual State of the Region Address on the Southside, October 4, 2017 and on the Peninsula, October 6, 2017. The first State of the Region Address was held in 1999 as a LEAD Alumni Breakfast gathering. Several years later, the Alumni invited the entire Hampton Roads community to share in this important opportunity to discuss the region’s economic strengths and challenges. The annual address is the business community’s most highly anticipated look at the Hampton Roads economy, drawing over 800 leaders from across the region each year.
This year’s Address will be presented for the first time as a luncheon from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Main Norfolk on October 4 and at the Marriott Newport News City Center on October 6. Dr. James V. Koch, President Emeritus and Professor of Economics, Old Dominion University, will be joined by Dr. Robert McNab, Professor of Economics, Old Dominion University and Deputy Director, Center for Economic Analysis and Policy to present this year’s report. All in attendance will receive a copy of “The State of the Region 2017” produced by the Regional Studies Institute, Old Dominion University. This year’s report includes a chapter, The Brain Drain, which was created through a special collaboration with the 2017 LEAD Hampton Roads Signature Class.
