Sentara Careplex will have a new independent and family owned coffee café-The Coffee Bar located at 3000 Coliseum Drive, Hampton, VA, between the main building and Orthopedic Building. It will open its doors on Wednesday, May 17th, 2017, and it will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:00 a.m. and an opening reception from 9:30 till 10:30 a.m. The Honorable Donnie Tuck Mayor of Hampton will speak on small businesses in the city and its impact on the city and economy.
This venture is the brainchild of Entrepreneur Veronica A. Davis. Many of us are familiar with Ms. Davis as the author of Virginia's groundbreaking book, "Here I Lay My Burdens Down" and "Hampton University". Her books have earned her, her own Google Notable Author address (https://g.co/kgs/IGxCws). She is considered a Virginia historian and Cemetery preservationist which she volunteers working with the Commonwealth consulting on historic cemeteries. In addition, her company Davis Burke Enterprises (named for her sons) has grown to become a leading services agency in the area.
When asked why Coffee? Ms. Davis replied she felt it was time that coffee got a new taste. Matching her desire for better tasting coffee with the elegant cafe space in Sentara Careplex, Ms. Davis said with a smile, "It was a perfect match, flavored coffee and de ja vou."
Ms. Davis was referring to a coffee shop that was once open in that space over 10 years ago. "I can remember Miss Kat served the best coffee in Hampton. We all miss her and hope that if she reads this article she can attend the opening. I started to name the shop for her, she always greeted us in the early mornings with a big smile and good coffee. When she left it just wasn't the same. I hope that my staff and coffee will live up to her legend."
The Coffee Bar will serve traditional and specialty coffee beverages (Hot and Iced), a variety of brewed gourmet coffee, artisan hot and iced teas, blended coffee beverages, pastries and bagels brought in fresh daily from local bakeries such as Couture Cakes by Nika. After viewing her website who can resist the temptation of enjoying a cup or Red Velvet Cognac, Coconut Rum, Almond Toffee, or Banana Split. Ms. Davis stated that over the next year she will select flavors from her menu of 145 flavors, that will include Hot Toddy, and Gingerbread for the cold and holiday seasons.
Neighboring the Cafe is an outdoor atrium where Ms. Davis plans to eventually host live entertainment for patients to enjoy the live sounds of classical violins, harps and piano. Inside the cafe there is seating for a little over 10 and 5 at the bar who will enjoy watching current events, soap operas, and sports.
"I wanted to personalize the space by offering an escape for visitors and hospital staff that are on their breaks" said Ms. Davis. "Coffee has gotten so high, we are revamping that by lowering the price and increasing the quality. I want people to know that this is a gathering place for them to relax and enjoy the entertainment and not make a mortgage payment on coffee."
The Coffee Bar is available to cater continental breakfasts for businesses, organizations, and private events. More information can be found on their website at thecoffeebar.cafe
